Meniscus Treatment

//Meniscus Treatment

The meniscus is like a cushion pad between the bones in the knee that acts as a shock absorber, distributing the loads evenly across the joint. Each knee has two menisci. The lateral meniscus is on the outside of the knee, while the medial meniscus is on the inside; both are very important structures that provide the knee with protection and also enhance stability to allow knee function. Meniscus injuries are common and result from repeated bending over the years, or a sudden twist. This may cause knee pain, when a patient bends their knee, or swelling, locking, catching, buckling, or a sensation of buckling. Injuries to the meniscus will vary in severity. Patients who have pain and limitation of function, may benefit from arthroscopic surgery. Dr. Lubowitz offers various surgical techniques to treat the meniscus. Surgeries will vary depending upon the severity and nature of the injury.
